If you are in need of a pastoral visit, please do not hesitate to call Pastor Godkin. Every effort will be made to meet the needs of you and your loved ones. If you know of someone in hospital, or who wants pastoral care, please speak to the Pastor and ask him to visit. David GodkinA short autobiography Born on May 7, 1976 in London, Ontario I come from a small and loving family of four. My parents, Ken and Karen, live in Brampton, Ontario while my brother, Paul, resides with his wife and children in Kitchener, Ontario. Upon high school graduation, I entered the University of Waterloo and completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science Co-op. I worked in a variety of settings on my co-op terms including positions with the Departments of Agriculture and Indian and Northern Affairs, as well as Corrections Canada. Following graduation, I was blessed to work as a counsellor in a Christian group home for one year. Then, in 2001 I was drawn to the Holy Ministry and enrolled as a theological student at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ontario. In the summer following my first year at seminary, I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Hospitality Ministry in downtown Toronto, reaching out with the Gospel to newcomers to Canada. During my second year of study, I attended Westfield House, the Lutheran seminary in Cambridge, England. This was an enriching experience that exposed me to a new culture and enabled me to visit several different countries. My vicarage year was spent in a four-point parish in Togo, Canora, Kamsack, and Springside, Saskatchewan (about two hours east of Regina). And in 2006 I was blessed to be called as pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church. 2010 was a most eventful year, as I married my lovely dear wife, Monalina. We were married in May and we then visited the Philippines to meet Monalina’s wonderful family. We look forward to our life together with God leading the way. We give Him all thanks for bringing us together. I have a number of interests and hobbies such as triathlon (swimming, cycling, and running), juggling, ping-pong, playing tennis and other sports, and listening to music. I am very thankful that our Lord has called me to serve His beloved people here at Ascension. Besides the blessing of being located in a fantastic city, the people of Ascension are very warm and welcoming. Through the power of God’s Word I look forward to building up the Body of Christ in this place and I relish the opportunity of working with our congregation to continue the mission work of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who do not yet know Him. |
