“And her husband Joseph, being a just man…” So says Matthew about the husband of Mary, and guardian of Jesus. But what does it mean to be just, to be righteous? As Matthew unfolds his Gospel we discover that righteousness is less a strict observance of a law, and more an attitude towards others. That attitude comes from the Spirit of Christ who dwells in us, the Christ who came “to save his people from their sins.”
